William Byrd

Here Ollie plays dress-up as the English musician, William Byrd (1539/1540-1623)

Byrd’s childhood mentor and keyboard teacher was Thomas Tallis, an English composer of sacred music. In later life Byrd continued to work with Tallis and was able to publish hymns and Sonnets called Cantiones with the support of Queen Elizabeth I. Byrd is best known for being a prolific composer who developed English madrigals (unaccompanied songs for several voices). He excelled in keyboard composition and polyphony (overlapping melodies).
