Rubinstein was a composer, pianist and conductor known for founding the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1862. Famous composers such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev were graduates of the conservatory. Rubinstein was well known for creating operas, symphonies, chamber music and ballets. His most famous works are the opera,‘The Demon’; ‘Symphony No. 2 “Ocean”’; and ‘Piano Concerto No. 4.’
